Changing Names

Hello faithful readers!

After much thought, I decided to change the name of this blog. Consequently, I had to create a new blog: http://fiveinthepottershand.blogspot.com ...I will not be posting anything further on Miscellaneous Musings. Please join me at my new blogspot!

The Perils of Pottytraining

As I was cleaning my bathroom today, I came across an unusual occurrence...there seemed to be a yellowish liquid in my toilet brush holder. I distinctly remember seeing only water and disinfecting solution in it the day before. Hmmm...I wonder what it could be? Slightly annoyed, I grab the only pottytrained toddler in my household,my son age 5- J., and drag him to the scene of the crime.

"Why did you pee in the toilet brush holder?!" I ask.
"It wasn't me it was I. (naming his younger brother, age 3, who is NOT pottytrained or even interested)!"
I holler for I. who takes his sweet time to get into the bathroom which is only a few steps away.
"Did you pee in the toilet brush holder?" I question.
"Yes." he replies (with the attitude of this is not an abnormal thing to do)
"DON'T PEE ANYWHERE EXCEPT THE TOILET!!!!!!!!!" I say, not so calmly.
"OK." he replies again.
"You are now from henceforth going to be pottytrained," I start to say.
"Why because?" he asks inquisitively.
"Because you, bucko, have just shown me you can pee somewhere besides your diaper...successfully! Welcome to pottytraining."
I lecture him on the reprecussions of toileting anywhere besides the bathroom toilet or the little potty and send him to go put on some underwear.

Now I KNOW he is DEFINITELY ready to pottytrain successfully. I would have preferred a "Hey Mom, I want to pee like a big boy." to what I had to clean up (oh well the floor needed mopping anyway) but being a mother is never that cut and dried...lol!

I never thought the day would come when I. would be excited about training. He always stated that he was a "little" boy and still needed diapers. It definitely comes at an opportune time as we are trying to cut back on expenses.

So I guess in retrospect, it was a toilet bowl of mixed blessing!

Carpe Diem or is it Diem Carpiem (The day siezed you!)

Why is it some days you wake up feeling as if you could conquer the world and you end up going to bed feeling like it conquered you? I had so many things that I wanted to get done today, but life (and a teething infant) got in the way. So now I sit here at 10:27 pm realizing that I have done practically nothing today. How frustrating!

I wish that I had a digital camera to make my blog more interesting, but I don't yet. I will be getting one soon, so stay tuned faithful reader (yes I do mean reader...you know who you are abbyjoy...lol) MMBJ will be getting more interesting in a while.

Tonight I have perused some blogs and I cannot help but feel that I am so UNCREATIVE and UNFRUGAL. As we are trying to thrive on one income, I am trying my hardest to be a good steward of the budget. However, I often feel as if I am failing miserably. And as for creativity, I really don't feel as though I have enough time! But then part of me replies that I just need to manage my time better. No small feat when you have baby who still has some of her night and day mixed up! Plus my hubby is working 20 hours of overtime a week and I only get to see him in the evenings, so I stay up later. I am still adjusting to these new schedules.

Would life be simpler if we lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere? Sometimes I wonder what would be different and a small part of me longs to return to the simple life. But I don't know if all of me would like that!

I must attend to my littlest one so I bid you adieu good reader...

Witty Nothings

Why is it when you set out to write something witty, nothing witty flies through your head? I decided to start a blog to get the ol' creative juices flowing, but I think that the juices have congealed over the years! Once upon a time I was a wonderful writer and poet...did I just have more material in my teenage angst and now in my mature motherhood and wifedom I cannot find anything to inspire me? "What could be more inspiring than motherhood?" I ask myself. Plenty of others find a plethora of inspirational material from their little munchkins.

Tonight I sit here as I put the two oldest to bed (ages 5 and 3) and listen as they giggle way past their bedtime. Swift retribution is what they need but somehow I cannot motivate myself to crack down in disciplinary fashion when their laughter is floating down the hall.

Our family has recently survived the dreaded flu that is being passed about in our neck of town. As I was commenting to a friend today, we could keep our children indoors, never go to social functions and have a bubble surrounding our homes, and STILL sickness would visit our bacteria-proof abodes. But I must admit that wintertime is the most trying, because it seems that the little angels catch EVERY virus like lint in a dryer.

And so I let the giggling continue, as it is music to my ears because the gigglers, as of late, have been somewhat subdued because of the flu. Besides, what is more melodious than a child's giggle? The only thing I know of is: two children and a baby giggling! :)
